Independent Living Options (ILO) Assessment for Confident, Supported Living

Independent Living Options (ILO) Assessment

Independent Living Options (ILO) funding helps NDIS participants aged 18 and over live independently in a home of their choice. While ILO does not cover the cost of housing, it provides the tailored support needed to create a safe, sustainable, and individualised living arrangement.

Our service supports individuals across Australia through accessible telehealth.

More info

  • ILO support can be delivered in a variety of settings, such as:

    • In the participant’s own home

    • In a family home
In a shared living arrangement (shared or individual supports)

    • With a host (where the participant lives in the supporter’s home

    Supports typically include:

    • Daily assistance (minimum of 6 hours/day)

    • Skill-building and support to promote independence

    • Strengthening informal networks

    • Ongoing flexibility to adjust as needs change

  • An ILO assessment follows the standard Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) process with an extended focus on home and living needs. Your Occupational Therapist will:

    • Explore your current living situation in depth

    • Assess the level of daily support you need

    • Identify the most appropriate ILO model based on your goals

    • Provide a clear recommendation justified under NDIS Reasonable & Necessary criteria

    • Outline risks if ILO funding is not provided

  • Following your ILO assessment, the ILO Functional Capacity report is typically submitted to the NDIS to request funding for Stage 1 – Exploration and Design. This stage allows the participant, with support from their Support Coordinator, to explore suitable living options, identify individual needs and preferences, and develop a detailed ILO Service Proposal. Once the proposal is completed and approved by the NDIS, Stage 2 – Implementation involves putting the identified supports in place to enable and sustain the participant’s chosen ILO arrangement.
